Rated 5 out of 5 by Pro Peach Photo from Great and As Expected I prefer 100 speed but this is my favorite 400 speed. Develops perfectly every time at 20 degrees celsius. It is a little soft and scratches very easily but just be careful while handling it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by MiamiMathGirl from Outstanding fast B&W film This film is absolutely stunning in 4×5. The midtones are very detailed but the film remains fairly contrasty with the right developer. I usually develop in D-76.

There are only two bad things about this film. Firstly, it really should be shot at ISO 320 and developed at ISO 400. I find my negatives are slightly underexposed at 400 developed in D-76 (stock). I also noticed that it scratches easier than TriX as well, so just be very careful loading and unloading.

Otherwise, I couldn’t be happier. This film’s tonal range and sharpness are both outstanding. The price is very good as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Weston from Ilford knows best Using HP5+ for an independent study of the 4×5 camera. I love the quality the negatives have and I really enjoy the grain in this film. Ive bought Kodak B&W but I always have a love for Ilfords emulsions over Kodak’s!

Rated 5 out of 5 by SkeetPhoto from High Quality Film I have been using HP5+ 4×5 with Graflex press cameras for the past 6 years. I use my negatives for darkroom printing and also scan them. The tones are wonderful and the film is always consistent.

I expose at ISO 320 to get good shadow detail in the final darkroom prints. I use Ilfotec HC (same as Kodak HC-110) for development.

This is a 25 sheet box of Ilford HP5 PLUS 4×5″ Black & White Print Film. It is a high speed, ISO 400 B&W film that is pushable to 3200. The film produces fine grain and sharp images under a wide variety of lighting scenarios. It is generally used for action, press, and general purpose photography. HP5 PLUS is compatible with all major processing systems, including those which support standard short fixing and washing times.

HP5 PLUS 4×5″ Black & White Print Film (25 Sheets) Reviews – page 2

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Very satisfied I was very hesitant to try anything other than my favorite Kodak TMAX for BW but gave this a try because 4×5 TMAX is way more expensive and I am so glad that I did.

The quality and grain of this film is absolutely stunning. I haven’t tried pushing/pulling the film yet but based on feedback online, it should do just fine. Very happy with this and will definitely be keeping a stock of this going forward.

Rated 5 out of 5 by But What I Really Want to Do is Direct from Great Tonality as Always I’m a photography student just starting to work with large format. I’ve always been a fan of Ilford films, and this product is no exception.

Ever since my first camera had a broken light meter, I’ve been overexposing and underdeveloping. While it started as an accident, the Ilford HP5 film produces the most gorgeous images when pull-processed, and I won’t shoot B&W any other way.

Generally, I meter my shots at ISO 250 (and then develop in straight D76 Kodak developer for 7.5 minutes at 70 degrees F.) Unlike with push processing, which produces very grainy images, pull-processing Ilford’s HP5 ISO 400 gives very cool, smooth shots.

Be careful about pulling it too far, however, as it tends to increase contrast (thus the greater tonal range). The only problem I’ve found with this method is that it produces darker negatives that take a longer time to expose in the darkroom.

Your contact sheets will take 16 rather than 4 seconds to expose.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous from Great product… could be cheaper I use these 4×5 negatives in my studio photography class and a few other photography classes. we all know that photography is an expensive hobby this film is GREAT! but it could be at least $ dollars cheaper.

.. it probably isn’t that expensive to make. Its probably expensive because it is becoming more and more obsolete .. It scratches very easily if your developing yourself.. just a warning but if your extremely careful when agitating the film should be fine.

The exposure is great and the film is archival if you have a dust proof case (and develop it right)

Rated 3 out of 5 by Bohemian from Film? or Cameraman? I can only definitively give this film 3 stars, and with that, not knowing if it was the film or my performance. As a WWII reenactor working with a Speed Graphic, I recently participated in a battle where I lost 3 exposures to film binding in the holders.

Naturally when you’re in a panic, running through a swamp and being threatened by blank-filring machine guns, rifles and sticker bushes, there’s no way to tell whether it was faulty loading, the panic or the film.

I have, however, never lost three in a row like that (out of 12 sheets), so I’m suspecting film curl. For processing and printing I’m fine with Ilford, but disappointed that I lost three hard-earned shots.
